AboutEach week, we'll give you a prompt and ask you to complete a short poem, a one-sentence story, a haiku, an obituary, a bumper sticker, a limerick (i.e., we'll keep it open). The LJ Editors will select the weekly finalists, and community members will then vote on the top entries.
Thinking about posting a submission? Here are a few general guidelines to help you get started:
1) Word limits are used here to give everyone a consistent context to work within. Art, however, doesn't always follow these guidelines. With this in mind, there will be a loose enforcement of the word limit policy (allowing up to twenty-word overages in a submission) to allow the work to express itself. We're here for the writing, not the accounting, am I right? Please be mindful of word limits for a given prompt but know we've got your back if you go over by a few words.
2) The exact wording of the prompt does not need to be included in your submission. Keep in mind though, it will count towards the word limit if it's included within the body of work.
3) Feel free to switch genders as your art dictates when working with a prompt that specifies gender.
